THAT BEGGAR FROM 6th STREET
Days, demand, duty are familiar words to us..
Family, success is where serenity occurs...
I was walking down a pavement one evening..
Saw a beggar eating loaf with nothing..
Nothing like jam, butter or any beverages..
But he was happy with what he has..
Some coins tinkling on his plate..
He saw me and asked me in his own gesture..
Can you make me happy by giving me some coins ?
His eyes were looking dull..
Like he was waiting for a reward from his life..
Behaving jolly and cheerful without possessing any wealth..
Sitting down on a torn carpet..
Acting like he was Aladeen and I am his genie..
I asked him, how can you survive each day like today?
Without food and water..
Waiting from someone non-existent to help you clean your own dirt.
How can you find mirth in greed?
He smiled, looking at me..
Looked up and said..
'Thank you for making me believe that I'm like you..
A human, someone's father too..
Most of the people neglect me because i expected something from them..
My mouth was aching without talking for ages..
People come and go but silently I too Hope.'
And he Looked down and started counting the coins on his plate..
I gave him a cheeky smile and started walking..
With a lesson worth remembering.

[P.S.- please help the poor peoples. They don't expect much from you. At least most of us can afford to give least of 10 Rs.
It is nothing compared to those we waste on some big restaurant. This
poem is really based on a true event except the beggar was speaking to
me in Assamese instead of English. Thankyou. Lord Shiva bless you all]
